On June 12, 1914, William McClure and George Johnston merged each of their companies and incorporated into a new entity. The new company combined The McClure Company and the GA Johnston Company to form the McClure-Johnston Company. The new venture opened its doors in the City of Pittsburgh at 1135 Liberty Avenue. In 1924, the business moved to Smallman Street (underneath what is now 279 North), where it expanded into wholesale roofing and sheet metal. In 1967, the Company purchased the old Summerfield Machinery buildings on Corey Avenue in Braddock. Since then, the Company has experienced tremendous growth, expanding their product selection, opening new branches and building a talented team of employees. In 1977 the Company opened its first branch operation in Johnstown. The following year a third location in was added in New Castle. In 1984, a Harrisburg branch was opened, followed by an Atlanta Branch in 1986 and a Cranberry branch in 1995. In 1998, branches were opened in Clarksburg, WV and Williamsport. In 2005, we expanded further south to Macon, GA. Most recently, in 2006, our growth continued with an additional West Virginia branch in Parkersburg. Look for our eleventh branch in New Kensington, PA (2007) and our twelfth in Cumberland, MD (2008). This success and growth can be attributed not only to excellent customer service but also to a commitment to quality products. Today, McClure-Johnston Company is not only the oldest Western Pennsylvania roofing distributor, but also the BEST. As the largest stocking residential roofing distributor in the area, McClure-Johnston Company can provide a wider selection and a complete inventory. The Company sells commercial and residential roofing products, siding, soffit, gutters, replacement windows and other exterior building products. As the Company looks to the future, they will continue to meet the needs of customers, as they have since 1914, with quality and service. |
